Can Changing Your Mindset Make You Happier?

  • Could changing our mindset and how we speak to ourselves make us happier?  Could it make us less stressed or anxious?

The short answer to this is yes (yes, yes, absolutely yes!). Changing your mindset can make you happier and less stressed or anxious. Let’s explore what a mindset is and how changing your mindset can impact your life. A mindset is a collection of thoughts and beliefs about one’s self or world. Our experiences create mindsets, be it early ones from childhood, education, or ones shaped by spirituality and religion. Mindsets develop a view of ourselves and our world. Our vision or mindset is important because it is our reality and gives direction in our life. The right mindset can set you up for success.

  • Can practicing this change the feeling of the intention of being an obligation to being a positive incentive?

Having a positive mindset creates a life shift. The deeper parts of ourselves are always listening. This is why it is important to speak and think positively. The work of the brain is so vast and powerful. Your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are more connected than you realize. What you think influences your feelings (mood) and is expressed in your behavior. Removing words/phrases such as I should and replacing them with I want creates a shift from obligation to freedom. Doing this is an example of positive self-talk. Self-talk is all the things that run through your mind that you say to yourself. Changing your words from negative to positive can motivate your behavior in the same direction.

  • What are the positive outcomes that can come out of changing our mindset positively?

Some positive outcomes that occur with a positive mindset are improved positive mood, increased physical wellness (stronger immunity), resilience, and decreased stress levels. By having a positive mindset, you can approach life positively, creating a source of power in various aspects of your life. People who think positively generally feel better or happier. They report higher levers of positive mood. People who think positively are generally more successful. People who think positively are more likely to have coping skills to help them manage stress or feelings like sadness and anxiety during difficult times. Positive thinking increases mental and physical wellness. Research supports that people who think positively have greater resistance to common colds.
